Why was there a change exactly? Also why wasn't this brought up in league suggestions?

I agree with Mike, this needs to be talked about. We're seeing Type B guys get offered multi-million dollar contracts - why increase this and see less guys sign as a result? I don't see how change is necessary IMO.

It's being changed because guys like Frakes have been comped three consecutive years. Comp shouldn't be for one year rentals, it should be players you want to invest in or we are handing out draft picks to lesser players.

I kind of see what your trying to say although Frakes while being comped 3 times got more than a rental deal this time around. What I'd be afraid of is instead of letting him go you'd see the team just extend him or deal him away at the deadline and then the receiving team extend him rather than him hitting the market for FA. This is the only league around where the caliber of guys in FA at least somewhat mimics reality. I'd hate to see things dry up because if you're saving comp for the best of the best than we would easily have lost 10+ comp guys who could have potentially been extended as there isn't the incentive there anymore to let them go when you have to bank on them getting at least a 2 year deal.

It would've been better if this was addressed to the league to see if it really is a problem the majority of us feels should be changed instead of an underhanded political sit down where a bill is passed in the middle of the night without anyone knowing.
I really don't think this year is a preview of things to come. We had a very rough FA class a few seasons ago, and moderate ones as recent as 2059 and 2060, so it was only a matter of time and wind before an off-season of 20+ comps happened.
I say we hold off on this change until the 2063 off-season and wait to see if this is a situation that definitely needs to be solved, or one that doesn't require a change. I don't see any evidence as to why this may happen every year from now on based on the past 10 years, but if it does become a problem we can definitely make a change.
Also, 2 years @ $7M would be a better starting point if its a 2 year deal needed IMO.

Even in two bad FA years the last two years we still had about a dozen comp guys, the vast majority of which are Type B.
I understand keeping the balance between comp/strong FA, but matty and I have been watching trends for about 5-10 seasons now. Adding an extra year is going to shave off the bottom end of the Type B's, which is what we want.

I'm not sure if this is prevalent to your point but the reason why most guys are type b is because type a comp got nerfed to the point where it's way to risky to even try for type a unless you are a very special player and even then you have to make sure the market is just right. I haven't seen anyone complaining that their picks are getting pushed back. Smaller markets are comping guys and they are getting signed keeping them competitive longer rather than having to deal that guy away or face getting nothing when FA times which coming from my standpoint can not happen. It seems were taking away a win-win situation away from everyone and replacing with something that no one has been out crying for just to wipe away some players people feel are not worthy which is irnoic given that one of the people watching the trends is matty and he's been one of the biggest offenders sending Spitzer and that other reliever a few seasons back. IMO, this isn't worth the potential harm to FA at least not until we have some sort of outcry about it because as is unless I've missed something there hasn't been any.

It's about keeping balance. Right now we're out of balance with the number of Type Bs and the quality of those players. This will reset this.
Frankly, I don't see this changing FA much - what it will change is some of the crap guys being Type B'd. They'll still be FA, but people won't be getting comp for them.

I see the opposite. I see teams dealing away those guys rather than get nothing in return. At least some of them anyway. Which will then lead to the new team extending them rather than them hitting fa.
