Reducing Cash Ideas
#1
I listened to the podcast, and sounds like winterball isn’t necessarily gone for good, just temporarily because of a potential cash problem in a few years. Maybe things are being talked about in an admin forum or something, but either way, I feel like we should be proactive in this and let the league talk this out and see some ideas to remove some cash in the file instead of just sitting back and then when it’s a problem having to bring winterball back or something. Maybe this thread can get conversation started and we can all give out different opinions that can all add up and help this league going forward. I have a few suggestions that we should at least think about and maybe others will have some suggestions as well.

Suggestion 1: g$ made a good suggestion on the podcast about increasing revenue sharing some. I don’t think it should be too much more but a little bit more could help, you take out more cash from the big markets which is a good thing.

Suggestion 2: Nickname costing $5 million cash per nickname. I was in outahere and this was done there (not for cash but for something else) and people used it, not a ton, but I know I would use it some if I have extra money, especially to big players I drafted or traded for. So this is a nice little way to get some cash out of the file and every little bit adds up. $5 million is a good price, if it’s much higher I wouldn’t use it and if it’s much lower you’d have it used a lot more, maybe even too much, $5 mil is a good number I think. Not everyone will use this, but I believe some will and the point is to get cash out of the file.

Suggestion 3: g$ made another good suggestion about increasing salary demands. I’ll be honest right here and now, I’d rather salary demands go up to +10% than for this league to bring back winterball, that’s how much I don’t want it coming back and this is coming from one of the lowest revenue teams in the entire file. And I’d rather this go up rather than league revenue go down any.

Suggestion 4: In-game cash cap, it currently looks like this: 50% of in-game cash above 100M is lost each off-season. i.e. You have $150M in-game, it will be dropped to $125M.

My suggestion is to make it 55% or 60% of in-game cash above 90M is lost each off-season. What this does is it makes teams actually bid in FA, and they can’t just hoard it. You can still earmark money for new stadiums or use some excess cash and improve your stadium. So you can get rid of some money with nicknames, by spending money in FA. This is a good way to get gm’s to get rid of some cash and if they still don’t, at least you take a lot of the excess cash away from them.

Suggestion 5: Team Banks lowered from $50 million to $40 million. This helps some with the cash as well, not a huge deal, but with other things being done can and will make a difference.

That’s about all that I can think of at this moment, and not asking for all of this, but some of this should be considered, and maybe others have some good ideas as well. If we sit back and do nothing or wait until we have a problem then I don’t believe that’s the wisest plan, because there will be cash problems, you need to nip it in the bud right now and this 2050 season should be all of us working together and figuring out a plan and prevent a cash problem in the future. Tough decisions will be needed, but that’s part of it.

Personally I don't think it will become a problem. Prices of other things will just go up. Buying picks up will cost more player contracts will cost more etc. However I do like the idea of the in game cash cap percentage going up and nicknames. Not that I'd ever waste 5mil on a nickname but some people might.

In 2049 Winterball took 450 million dollars out of the file. Keep that in mind with suggestions.

Winterball will probable have to come back considering what it does to take cash out.

I think it should just be harder to make an impact on the player. At the same time, it should be less of a risk of a long term injury. I took a couple hits with injuries and turned against winterball.

Less increase with less risk = people spending money still.

Ideally the solution would be this:

All teams are allowed only one WB entrant.

Teams with the top 10 records: 35M
Teams with the middle 10 records: 25M
Teams with the bottom 10 records: 20M

Same dice rolls. This will likely make 12-15 players effected each year, which is minimal along with roughly the same amount of cash pulled.

None of these solutions is going to be even a drop in the bucket of $450M and many will cause serious problems of their own.

What about a special training winterball?

I have a guy who needs better contact. If the dice says, just his contact goes up.
Another idea is a salary floor. You must spend at least half your budget $ each year. Teams are profiting $60 mil plus each season currently. Also could assist in preventing a total tanking by some GM's.

It wouldn't prevent total tanking. It's pretty easy to just pay one player a ridiculous amount of money to meet the floor.

Here is another twist on the tiered system:

All teams are allowed only one WB entrant.

Teams with the top 10 cash totals: 35M
Teams with the middle 10 cash totals: 25M
Teams with the bottom 10 cash totals: 20M

Same dice rolls, but different outcomes:

1--100: no change
101-150: +1 peak
151-175: +2 peak
176-190: +1 predicted, +2 peak
191-200: +2 predicted, +2 peak

Here is what we talked about in XAT:

Everything with WB stays the same only with the following changes:

Dice roll payouts:
1-40 No Change
41-120 +1 Peak
121-175 +2 Peak
176-200 +3 Peak

something like this is what i can get behind. make it really tough to get a 3 peak point improvement and it would be max in my opinion and predicted is def a no go for me. this is a nice little compromise.
