I'm against expansion as well. if this was a 20 team league or something, i would be more for it, but it's tough to find 30 good active gm's, then to expand to 32 would be even tougher to keep all the guys around. i joined this league back in december, and this league had 3 openings, the brewers, rockies and padres. sure, right now it has no openings, which is a great thing, but you never know when 1 or 2 or even 3 guys just bolt all at once or within a month of each other.

I get the appeal...it's a cool process. If, for fun and to keep Sean occupied while he waits, we want to do a mock expansion to see how the teams would turn out that could be fun.
But I'm dead set against this, too much time and effort has been put into this league to jeopardize it this severely.

I would actually be for expansion this time around. Now that we have stood the test of time I think it's feasible. I used this argument before to argue the other side but now that we have been around I don't think it's an issue and that's the argument of "what if there's openings". There will always be a chance of openings no matter if you have 30 teams or 300 teams. I don't think that's a fair argument you can use to nix something that would be fun, exciting and interesting for a league, not to mention get Sean a team and trim down our waiting list. The only real argument in my opinion is what will happen to the talent. Will the current talent caps work or will adjustments need to be made so we don't see a bunch of drops or jumps? All that though could be tested and with proper testing and Matty basically having a complete mock up of how to execute an expansion flawlessly I don't see any reason why we couldn't expand. Really if worst came to worst you could always retract 2 teams in the future.

300 teams to fill and 30 teams to fill are most certainly not the same thing. After that the rest crumbles.

mike, it's not that simple to just say contract. i've never ever heard of a league still staying intact after contracting, most, likely all, die within 1 real life year after a contraction. contraction in my opinion is death for a mogul league, i have never heard of a legit league contracting and still being what it used to be and not dying shortly after.
easy solution is putting sean at the top of the waiting list and when a team opens up to let him decide if he wants to take that team or wait for a different team. i'm pretty confident they'll be an opening in a few months, maybe even sooner. sean would have already had a team, but he was nice enough to move down the waiting list for others, but now it's time for sean to be at the top and he gets first pick on if he wants a team when they open in the future.
honestly, i'm against expansion, but it's ultimately up to andy imo. andy is the head guy here, he's probably put in the most work for real life years for this league to stay as good as it is. if andy wants expansion, then fair enough, if not, in fear of it hurting the league, i think that's fair as well. andy is pretty smart at making right decisions for this league, so i'll trust he'll make the right decision on this as well.

Well I never said anywhere that they were the same thing. Maybe you misunderstood. I'm saying that no matter how many teams you have, you will always have to worry about someone leaving. So to use that as basically the only reason to not expand is weak in my opinion. Not when we have a waiting list and have been around awhile now. The league will never fold because there is people here who will not let it die.

Right, but with every team you have to fill, the difficulty of staying full increases exponentially. 32 is MUCH more difficult than 30. Just as 30 is to 28.
Oughtahere used the same arguments and had the same logic behind expanding. And it literally killed that league. Why take that risk?

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned that would be a major stumbling block is what adding two teams to the file would do to the talent levels. Mogul handles OVR and PEAK by % per team and by adding two teams and spreading out what we currently have to 32 opens up the file to a major period of talent jumps to fill out moguls quota. This would be a major no no for me in a file that we have now is stable and working well. I think screwing with this would be a mistake.
(IF) we worked out the numbers for example we have setting for 4 90 peaks per team which equates to 120 for the entire file. If you add 2 teams without changing this it would be a huge mistake; you would need to change this number to 3.75 to keep 120 for the entire file (and so on for the other file settings). If this is done hypothetically the file should remain stable and the talent pool would spread out (in our case it wouldnt be a bad thing)
Also I think the notion of DJ coming back is purely a pipe dream
