If I was DJ I might agree with you mike, but in his absence I'll explain his reasons again. I think they can be disagreed with, but there is nothing irrational about it:
*The sooner we open draft pick trading the sooner we open the door to teams tanking and giving up their seasons. Considering this is an issue already in the league, I'm not sure why this isn't recognized. All opening up this door means is we expose more teams to the potential of slashing and burning their teams before they've even played a game.
*With draft picks over-valued in this league, the two sim wait at least offers some protection from someone foolishly dealing a talent for draft picks in which they give up much better MLB talent then what they get in draft picks.
*No teams in real life would ever sell off their teams in April. We are already unrealistic about draft pick trading to begin with, but when you open the door for teams to dismantle in April it makes the entire option that much more ridiculous. At least by waiting a month you keep some form of sanity to it.
Again, these are perfectly rational arguments. We've seen the tendency by some GMs to give up on seasons long before they should. And to overvalue draft choices. This is just a slight precaution to prevent people from shooting themselves in the foot. The gains of allowing it to happen two sims earlier are minimal, but there are potentially serious problems that could develop.
I wouldn't push this any further personally. IMO - if we keep bitching about this, I'm going to start advocating for a total ban on draft pick trading. Just so we can shut up about it and act more realistically.
