If the comp was just a 3rd and 4th rounder, I'd question if it was worth my while to release the comp player in the first place rather than keep him. In this process the teams getting comp still geta high pick, the team sgiving up the picks only lose a low pick, its great on both ends. If done properley I dont think it wold cause any confusion. I son't forsee say 30 sandwhich picks or anything like that. I can understand the concern but I think we should at least try it out this year and if it doesn't work then we could always change it back ot change it to something else.

If a 2nd round is too much of a cost, make the compensation for A a 3rd round and B a 4th round. I would rather keep the process simple and do what the game allows us. Rather than come up with a system outside the game that will complicate matters. I like the concept in theory but come the night of the draft, this is going to be a headache to keep up with.
Mike nailed it. If you keep dropping the compensation received then you eliminate the desire for teams to release players. Compensation exists to make free agency possible, to keep talent moving around (ala real life), but also to give teams who are doing this for the betterment of the league some kind of incentive/reward.
Your suggestion makes it worse on both fronts compared to the suggestion posted. Signing teams would give up a higher pick and releasing teams would get a lower pick.
The sandwhich round isn't going to be that awful. It's recording 10-15 players paper and pencil and the round they have to be picked. Which you also don't have to worry about until the draft has tapered down to the fifth and sixth.
Who loses on this?

I would seriously question staying in the league if this was done in all honesty. I would have a hard time following the draft and what point is it for me to be in this league if I cannot follow the draft? I know I am not going to be writing down the picks made in these sandwich round picks and I have no means of imputing them in the game.
I will again repeat myself. I have no problem with the concept that you have. I have the problem with the game not allowing us to do this properly.

How is it not allowing you to do it properly? All we're doing is drafting those players in advance and then DJ, on the master copy, is filling them into the 5th and 6th round slots.
If you're following in-game...just draft away - your picks won't align perfectly with the teams but you can still take the guys that are off the board. You'll still have an accurate list.

Outahere does a variation of this and is where I got the thinking to implement something like this. So, it works if ran properly and (not to come of as smug, but) if you listen to the way I'm saying to have it set up it'll work and draft night will go smoothly. Hell, I'd even toss my hat in the ring to run it if DJ isn't here or in the least coordinate the Sandwich portions of the draft. Here's the best way I can explain the entire process.
- Compensation rankings (Type A/B) and fallback arbitration are ran like normal.
- The compensation player threads are ran like normal, with subjectivity towards offers having to truly be better than accepting the fallback arbitration.
- Once free agency has concluded, the sandwich round order is determined by the player's compensation score. Teams losing Type A players get a pick between rounds 1 and 2 while losing a Type B gets you a pick between rounds 2 and 3.
- Teams getting sandwich round picks get the corresponding 5th or 6th round pick (4th round, if necessary) on the game file.
- A thread is created and pinned in the Draft forum listing out the draft order for the sandwich rounds.
- During the draft the thread will be updated with the picks as we go so that all GMs can have a reference of those who still appear as "available" in-game, but are actually taken.
- Then when we get to the 5th and 6th round (4th round, if necessary), the corresponding sandwich round picks are now entered in-game.

Personally, I would remove the comp score and go with highest total contract. It better reflects the league's value of that player as jhc pointed out.

That would be fine with me.
