If I'm not mistaken I thik we have a rule that prevents contract renewls in April because the game AI will either over compensate if there is a hot start or vice versa

You can resign in April I believe, but this extension is illegal under this rule:

In order to renegotiate a contract the new contract must exceed the current deal in years, total value and annual value.
