Nokes Deems First Road Trip A 'Success'
Worcester, MA -- Even though the Crusaders dropped the first five games of the season, they did finish the trip with four wins in their last six games. "It started out rough, but we started to gel as a team and have some momentum going forward." stated head coach Matt Nokes.
The time away will give the coaching staff time to assess their recruiting needs. Juan Colangelo (San Bernadino, CA - JC) has expressed interest in going to a school known for academics and Holy Cross is expected to make a big push for the left-handed pitcher and Baseball America's #48 prospect. The Crusaders have already been in contact with lefty Brandon Poirrier (Norwich, CT - HS) and outfielder Ari Hinchman (Rochester, NY - HS). Holy Cross is expected to attempt to reel in a catcher and Dooley Coit (Union City, TN - HS) is the likely target.
The time off also gives Brad Hickox a chance to recover. He was injured sliding into second base, leaving Saturday's game with a strain in his left obliques. "We're just glad it's nothing serious, nothing is broken," said Nokes. "Brad will take it easy this week and then take live batting practice Friday to test out his obliques. If he's not ready to return for Saturday's game, he should be able to return at some point over the weekend."
Holy Cross will head out on a shorter, six-day, five-game road trip next weekend. Holy Cross will have a bat representatives from Rawlings, Miken, and Louisville Slugger on hand. A good showing could net the Crusaders a sponsor. Here's the projected starters for each series:
