September Rankings
AL Contenders:
Toronto Blue Jays - Probably the favorites with the best pitching staff in the AL. What else is there to really say? They just need to hold off the Yankees for the division and they should have an easy matchup against Oakland in the opening round.
New York Yankees - The hottest team in the AL is making things interesting. They do have a tougher September than the Blue Jays, but they're still in good shape to win the Wild Card.
Detroit Tigers - They have the best offense in the AL and if they can withstand September, they're the most likely to top the Jays.
Chicago White Sox - A contender, but barely. Being one of the hotter AL teams helps a lot. Detroit does have a bit tougher September schedule, so with a little help from the Yankees the Sox could jump the Tigers for the Central.
AL Pretenders:
Oakland A's - Granted, they'll probably win the West, they aren't a real World Series contender. There's just too good of other teams.
Texas Rangers - Even though they are just five games back of Oakland and do have an easy sim 12 schedule, their next sim is a bit rough and the A's have give them more than a chance to take the lead.
NL Contenders:
Florida Marlins - Barely a contender...ha. Baring a 0-30 September and a 30-0 September from Washington the Marlins have the East and are in great position for a title run.
Pittsburgh Pirates - Pittsburgh has cooled off, but I think all of the other central teams will beat up on each other enough to allow the Pirates to squeak by with a one or two game division lead.
Cincinnati Reds - They feature series against Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Philadelphia while other division teams are squaring off against each other. Right now, they'd be my favorite for the Wild Card.
Houston Astros - What a race it's going to be. Houston is without C Chiaki for the rest of the season, but they have a pretty mellow schedule overall. They can definitely come away with a solid record over their final 30 games.
Arizona Diamondbacks - They're probably my pick for the NL pennant. Florida just seems to have problems come October and the D-Backs pitching staff is very strong top to bottom.
Colorado Rockies - The Rockies definitely have a favorable finale to 2024 and are home for the majority of Sim #11. With some help from the Central, they could end up on top of the Wild Card with the three teams in front of them battling inside their own division.
NL Pretenders:
Chicago Cubs - They have to play Colorado, Cincinnati, Houston twice, and Arizona on the road. Not too mention decent St. Louis and Milwaukee teams that undoubtedly won't be easy series either. I think the Cubs are good, but the schedule down the stretch is just too brutal. Their 8-season playoff run ends here.
