In order to renegotiate a contract the new contract must exceed the current deal in years, total value and annual value. Team and, especially, player options will be considered in this decision. If you try to circumvent this you will be fined and the severity will depend on the amount of money remaining on the contract. Again, you cannot screw over the players because the AI has loopholes. This would be both a rule violation and a violation of the don't be an ass rule.
