No bueno Bell extension is illegal. If he's not willing to go there under his current deal why would he agree to a smaller salary to forego that right?
If you want to extend bell I won't have a foot to stand on but everything about this extension flies in the face of logic and attempting to simulate a real baseball universe. And, while that's not officially a rule, it's the stated goal of the league since day 1 so I feel there's precedent for this decision.
