Expansion?
#1
I wanted to see if there was any thought about the chance of future expansion. This will be my 3rd season as co-gm and we have had the ability and fortune to be able to keep me here on standby if a team needed an owner. This league has prided itself on trying to be a realistic league and by the year we are at in the file, I feel that expansion is something that most definitely would have happened by this point.

If we feel that this is something that we want to do, I would love to take over one of the expansion teams. I feel that I have proven myself as an owner in the past and I think this is something I can handle.

I think if this is something that is going to be done, it would be apropos to try and reach out to DJ and see if he would come out of retirement to take the 2nd expansion team. Would be nice to try and get him back and active around these parts again. We all know that the idea of expansion is something that he championed for many seasons. It might be the thing to lure him out and get him back around again.

It's a great idea, but the more obscure mogul becomes (until it rights the ship anyway) I'd hate to open up that much potential space. 2 more teams is that much more difficult to field GMs for and nothing destabilizes a league like large bunches of openings.

It'd be a helluva lot of fun, I just don't think it's wise for league health.

I do not disagree with you Andy but we have had me here for the 3 seasons and have not had to use me yet. We have had people sign up on the wait list and lose interest in their wait. I am sure we could always recruit someone if needed.

I do agree that if this is not done right it could be a nightmare for the health of the league. However, if done right it could be something very fun for the league.

I would support expansion by two teams, no more.

Sean seems to have been awfully gracious in stepping aside over the past 3 seasons for someone else when a team became available.

Andy's concerns are legitimate in that nothing endangers league health faster then a bunch of vacancies; I just don't know how, if, or when Mogul has or will ever "turn the corner" back from obscurity.

What I do know is we have a co-GM with a historically strong body of work and another member who at last look was looking for a job to learn the game. I think we can pull this off.

There's no question that it would be done right, because I already have the expansion process written out. The question is if it's right to do. With the shape mogul is in right now, I don't think it's good. Plus we still haven't been in as good of shape as I'd like to be in order to expand.

i think the pool of prospective gm's would have to be overwhelming for expansion to be a smart idea and it isnt. Our waiting list tends to be hit or miss as well.

If we were consistently running a 4 deep waiting list, we might have to reconsider this. Otherwise, I'd be against it.

I'm STRONGLY against expanion. Not only does it water down the talent in game and for GM's, expanding is just not good for the long term success of the league. Trust me, i played almost 35 seasons in a league that expanded to 36(Outahere) and while in its hey day, it was booming, expansion was great. But eventually it wears off and becomes harder and harder to find quality GM's to fill those extra teams. I will always say no to expansion..

The only reason I'd be against this is that we still aren't able to add more playoff teams. or have it the way we want. If we were able to have 6-10 playoff teams per league(yeah 20 is a lot but if you had 36+ teams it's not that outrageous). Along w/ that, financially closing the game between the bottom and top(this is just me) and I'd def be on board.

Not against it Seany, right now it's not the best for business.

I echo some of the other posts....unless we have a steady waiting list of 4-5 prospective GMs I am very much against it. I saw how hard it became to find GMs in, what was once, a great league (Outahere). this league is solid and I hope it will stay this way.
