Expansion
#61
Stop assuming what I'm saying. I mean exactly what I say. Yes I believe we will die if we implement expansion, or if we don't die, we will lose activity greatly until we do. We have a good thing going here, we don't want to rush this. We just want to play the game. If we have survived until the 2020s and we look strong, and we have active and intelligent GMs up for the task, I will definitely be more lighter towards the idea of expansion. But not at this age of the league, we are too young.

I just don't understand the argument of "we are too young"

What is going to change in 7 years?

3 years is not long enough to know if we can go for 20+ seasons. We need a way bigger sample size, and 7 years will do it. I've been in leagues that have gone 4 years and died, 5 years and died. Don't think that just because we have lasted this long we will survive. Tomorrow one of our GMs could need to quit, then another, then activity goes down and keeps going down till the rest of the league just gets bored of it. I don't understand how you don't understand "we are too young". 3 years isn't enough time to stamp expansion on it.

Well it would be 5 full seasons before we expand... If 5 seasons isn't a sample size idk what is

i understand what he's saying. Its always good to see what GM's are here for the long haul. By 2020, you should be able to judge how strong your core group of gm's are.. do you still have a full slate of gm's by then? or are you always having to replace gm's for 3-5 teams every season? I'm in a league where they have expanded to 36 teams, but we have a great core and rarely have to replace gm's, we are also in 2030.. you cant always assume that you will have gm's that will stay around forever though, thats just how this online stuff works.. people get bored, people leave. people have lifes that get in the way, go figure....

on the other hand, i dont think expansion is impossible just b/c you claim it hasnt been successful in other leagues... Generally speaking, MOST mogul leagues fail after 1-5 seasons. So its not just expansion that kills other leagues, its poor commishes, poor gm's, and/or unorganized league in general. Expansion could work this early with dedication from commishes and the expansion teams new owners. Every league will have to replace gm's from time to time, its just gonna happen. But if you have a committed core group with plenty of help and solid commishes, it could work.

After this year, we should decide either 2018 or 2020. That's whats fair. Either 5 more seasons until we discuss it or 7. We don't want to have to go through this all over again in the matter of one year. We just want to play the game, and expansion is a dream that you want. But if you want a dream of keeping a league active and steady for 20+ seasons, you should really take into account what the GMs want. Not saying you don't, but it's what a great admin should do IMO. We want a league to play in for 20+ seasons. BTW how effective will expanding really be in terms of making the league better or great? How will that make anyone notice us? With the reputation of expansion, people will actually shy away from the league if they hear we expanded. We won't go into any record books by 2014. We will go into the record books if we last as long as Outahere, we are too young to be serious about going down in mogul history.

Good point. However I think for this decision, it's better to err on the safe side. I think expansion can work, but just not right now or in the near future.

just to play devils advocate, why dont you think it could work now? are you questioning the committment of commishes of this league? questioning the current gm's? It seems you guys have a pretty good core here and you all want this league to succeed. while i completely understand where your coming from, if you dont question the committment of the league, why wait? looks like you have guys wanting in the league all the time.. i know i may be missing something b/c i've never even been to the board until today, but, being too young of a league isnt really a legit excuse to me. It could work easliy with dedication

I'm basically saying this beacuse I've been in past leagues with a GM core of the same excellence and they have fallen. It's been so hard to create a league with these kind of GMs and this kind of staff, along with this kind of dedication. Can't we relax and live with the beauty of what we got before going ahead and jumping into expansion? It's a subject that changes the whole perspective of the league. I don't question anyone, but I really just want to enjoy our success for a while longer, strive to achieve 10 seasons which is a great accomplishment and see what teams need consistent and active GMs so they don't go through them like water. Right now, me and many other GMs just want to enjoy this league and play the game, we don't want to have to cram our heads into a subject that could risk it all.
