Top 5 Commentary: It's take your pick at #1 with either Toronto or Florida. I'll take the Jays with the slightly better offensive attack. But don't count out central powers; Houston, Detroit, or the Cubbies. You have to think two of these usual powerhouses will meet in the World Series, but will someone else make an '22 Oakland-like run in the playoffs?

Most Overrated: St. Louis Cardinals - I feel Minnesota is a bit overrated in these as well, but they are more believable with a strong rotation and bullpen. St. Louis just doesn't have the offense needed to compete in the NL Central.

Most Underrated: Pittsburgh Pirates - Peter does a good job of finding players that produce and Mogul simply views overall ratings. This team will produce better than the average team this poll has them labeled.

Thanks.

I have decided to update the rankings a bit. I noticed there's very little differences in a lot of lineup ratings, so I wanted to give it more weight for those that have the truly good lineups. Not much change up from the original rankings, but a few teams shuffled around.

Top 5 Commentary: Florida and Toronto are no surprises, but no Houston or the Cubbies are a surprise. Milwaukee is making a run for worst to first. Can they surge ahead of Pittsburgh?

Most Overrated: Baltimore Orioles - They've allowed too many runs and one look at the pitching staff and you'll know why. They've got a few good arms, but they direly lack the depth to make a run. If they can add pitching, the lineup is good enough to make a run.

Most Underrated: Minnesota Twins - They have a lot of pitchers who have started slow out of the gate. They're better than this and when the pitching starts to click, look out.

Top 5 Commentary: Replaced Detroit with Baltimore and we might have the best five true contenders. It's interesting that Florida has both the lowest runs scored and runs allowed. When it comes playoff time, which will give first?

Most Overrated: Baltimore Orioles - I'm not as down on them as most seem to be in the CBox, but their Sim #6 schedule ended with three sub-.500 teams. They have bats that will work in their home run park, but pitching is a question. I think they could make the playoffs, but without better pitching it'll be an early exit.

Most Underrated: Colorado Rockies - Other than five games against the Padres and Giants (both in the first week of the month), all of my Rockies' other opponents this month were .500 or better. With a stretch like that treading around .500 and staying in the playoff race are important. The additions of Elless and Aitkin, should mean more wins are to be expected in the upcoming sims.

Additional Notes: So far my overrated/underrated teams from the pre-season are panning out. As we've seen St. Louis does have a good pitching staff, but also has one of the worst run producing offenses in the NL. As for my other pick, Pittsburgh, they've played as expected. They have been helped by some re-tooling of the Cubs and subpar play by the Astros. However, they have five players on pace for 20+ home runs and the pitching staff looks fine.

Top 5 Commentary: The Marlins are really distancing themselves from the rest of the pack. Not only did they have a fantastic month of July, but they upped their runs per game by 0.35 from the last rankings! The AL East is making their presence felt and Arizona is starting to pull away from my Rockies.

Most Overrated: Arizona Diamondbacks - This isn't really a knock on them. It's more of a testament to the rest of the league's rankings. As these rankings show, as time goes the weaker teams get shaken out and the good teams move up. I still think the D-Backs are a great contender, but at this point I'd probably take the Pirates or Tigers over them.

Most Underrated: Chicago White Sox - Despite a mediocre July they're still in the playoff race. Other than a couple series against Detroit, Chicago has a very winnable month in which they could very easily win 20 games. Happy now JHC!? You finally got some love. Now shut it! Haha. (Wink)

Additional Notes: This is the first rankings were all .500+ teams are ranked in the top half. There's not much else to say about these rankings. Though there is the Reds to look out for. They're rising back up in the rankings and are making some nice moves. And I know a lot of people keep doubting the Orioles, but they keep winning and are one of only seven teams with at least 60 wins.

AL Contenders:
Toronto Blue Jays - Probably the favorites with the best pitching staff in the AL. What else is there to really say? They just need to hold off the Yankees for the division and they should have an easy matchup against Oakland in the opening round.

New York Yankees - The hottest team in the AL is making things interesting. They do have a tougher September than the Blue Jays, but they're still in good shape to win the Wild Card.

Detroit Tigers - They have the best offense in the AL and if they can withstand September, they're the most likely to top the Jays.

Chicago White Sox - A contender, but barely. Being one of the hotter AL teams helps a lot. Detroit does have a bit tougher September schedule, so with a little help from the Yankees the Sox could jump the Tigers for the Central.

AL Pretenders:
Oakland A's - Granted, they'll probably win the West, they aren't a real World Series contender. There's just too good of other teams.

Texas Rangers - Even though they are just five games back of Oakland and do have an easy sim 12 schedule, their next sim is a bit rough and the A's have give them more than a chance to take the lead.

NL Contenders:
Florida Marlins - Barely a contender...ha. Baring a 0-30 September and a 30-0 September from Washington the Marlins have the East and are in great position for a title run.

Pittsburgh Pirates - Pittsburgh has cooled off, but I think all of the other central teams will beat up on each other enough to allow the Pirates to squeak by with a one or two game division lead.

Cincinnati Reds - They feature series against Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Philadelphia while other division teams are squaring off against each other. Right now, they'd be my favorite for the Wild Card.

Houston Astros - What a race it's going to be. Houston is without C Chiaki for the rest of the season, but they have a pretty mellow schedule overall. They can definitely come away with a solid record over their final 30 games.

Arizona Diamondbacks - They're probably my pick for the NL pennant. Florida just seems to have problems come October and the D-Backs pitching staff is very strong top to bottom.

Colorado Rockies - The Rockies definitely have a favorable finale to 2024 and are home for the majority of Sim #11. With some help from the Central, they could end up on top of the Wild Card with the three teams in front of them battling inside their own division.

NL Pretenders:
Chicago Cubs - They have to play Colorado, Cincinnati, Houston twice, and Arizona on the road. Not too mention decent St. Louis and Milwaukee teams that undoubtedly won't be easy series either. I think the Cubs are good, but the schedule down the stretch is just too brutal. Their 8-season playoff run ends here.
