Top 30 GM Ballot
#1
Free Agency: How good is the GM in Free Agency? This isn’t necessarily how active is the GM, but how smart are they in Free Agency at identifying the best players, getting the best value for their dollar, etc…

Trades: How good is the GM at crafting trades? Are they usually taken to the cleaners? Or do they get good value when making deals?

Drafting: We could certainly differentiate between pitching and specific positions, but let’s focus on the in-general skill at draft. How good is the GM on draft day?

Hitting: How well does the GM acquire talent for their lineup?

Defense: How well does the GM construct their defensive alignment?

Pitching: How well does the GM build a pitching staff?

Rebuilding: When in rebuild, how effective is the GM at turning the team back around into a contender?

Ethics: This is my favorite. Do they Mogul in the spirit of the game? Or do they look to game the system? Do they go out of their way to take advantage of other GMs? Do they pull bush league decisions when tanking? These are just some of the questions to ask about whether the GM plays fairly or solely looks out for themselves.

Your thoroughness knows no bounds...

I am always impressed with your attention to detail. Would I have received one grade up had the Patrick trade not happened? Feel like I got judged pretty strongly on that one.

Thanks, but I usually like to look at things objectively and is nice to say, "If I value a GM's x skill this and their y skill that, how does that make them match up to other GMs?"

I'll admit, some of the individual grades may have been generic. Some are what they are, because I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. For your grades, no they weren't negatively impacted by the Patrick deal. It was made known that a number of other suitors offered more, so that was more of an error on the other GM than it was you. You got a "3" Ethics grade, because I think your trade prices generally suck and are hoping for a soggy all-day sucker.
