Free Agency Rules
#1
Free Agency

To sign a Free Agent during the off-season two requirements must be met:

1) 48 hours have passed since the start of Free Agency (9PM ET)
2) 24 hours have passed since the last offer was made on the Free Agent

Additional Rules
- Options are not allowed.
- Players cannot have a contract offer that runs past their season age 44.
- You can match a contract's total offer with less years and be the leading bid.

EXAMPLE

COL offers $5Mx3 Years
TOR offers $7.5Mx2 Years

TOR would be leading the bid since they matched COL and the player would prefer the same amount of money for less years. Someone else could offer $15Mx1 to match and take the lead as well.

No bids that extend past the player's age 40 season unless they are 2 years or less.

Minimum Bids Per Years Offered

1yrs - No Minimum
2yrs - 1.0M
3yrs - 5.0M
4yrs - 7.5M
5yrs - 10.0M
6yrs - 12.5M
7yrs - 15.0M

"League Minimum" bids will be $600K so that all non-draft day/minor league deals will be guaranteed.

Compensation Guidelines
1. Teams may make a fallback offer to any player with 6.000+ years of service time as long as the player has been on the current team the entire season. Teams must choose between which compensation you want to attempt for, Type A or Type B.

2. Fallback salaries will be $16.0Mx2 Years (Type A fallback) or $8.0Mx2 Years (Type B fallback).

3. In your re-signings file, simply note you wish to offer fallback and which type you are trying for.
i.e. SP Todd Lincoln - Offer Type A Fallback

4a. Teams will lose a 5th round pick for signing a Type A player and will lose a 6th round pick for signing a Type B player.

4b. Regardless of compensation type, teams will lose your 5th and 6th round picks for signing two compensation players and will lose your 4th, 5th, and 6th round picks for signing three compensation players.

5. Teams can sign a maximum of three compensation players per off-season.

6. Type A compensation round happens between rounds 1 and 2, Type B compensation rounds 2 and 3.

- An archive (thread) will be posted in the draft forum to track the compensation selections
- Highest total value of contract determines each comp round order (highest overall, then youngest determines tiebreaker)

Type A can still be offered 5+ years and Type B can still be offered 4+ years, but they will fall under the regular minimum bids at that point.

Draft Day Contracts
1. Draft day/minor league contracts are valid in-season and after update #1 in the off-season
2. Whenever offering a draft day/minor league contract you must post your current record along with the offer (in the off-season use the previous regular season record).
3. Your options are either the standard draft day contract (minimum salary at each level) or go straight to a guaranteed $600Kx1 offer.
4. Any team can place a draft day/minor league contract offer on a player. As long as no one offers a $600K salary then the lowest winning percentage wins the player on a draft day contract.
5. Whether you offer a draft day or minor league contract, it means the same thing, you will have the player under team control until he amasses six years of MLB service time.

Tiebreakers - In case current winning percentage is the same
1. Current Season Pythagorean Record
2. Previous Regular Season Record
3. Previous Season Pythagorean Record

In-season Free Agents:
Peaked players are first come, first serve during the season (once the Spring Training file has been posted) as Draft Day (Minor League) Deals.

-- Players are not considered Free Agents until they are listed as a Free Agent in a posted file.

-- The don't be an ass rule still applies. Only sign players that you intend to use or for necessary injury insurance depth. If abused, you will be forced to sign all players for guaranteed money.

It's unfortunate, we thought we could let up restricting bidding on older players, apparently not.

Players cannot have a contract offer that runs past their season age 40.  Players older than 40 should be offered no more than 2 years in FA.

New rule of the day. "Let's not be a dick to Andy" Rule

Bids cannot contain $50K ($X.X5M) amounts. They must either be in full Million or Hundred Thousand amounts.

i.e. $8.2M is good, $8.25M is not

Bidding in $50K amounts guarantees Andy has to edit the contract for it to be correct. Bidding in full $100K amounts means a much greater chance Andy can sign the player for the exact offer and not have to edit the contract.
