July Rankings
Top 5 Commentary: Replaced Detroit with Baltimore and we might have the best five true contenders. It's interesting that Florida has both the lowest runs scored and runs allowed. When it comes playoff time, which will give first?
Most Overrated: Baltimore Orioles - I'm not as down on them as most seem to be in the CBox, but their Sim #6 schedule ended with three sub-.500 teams. They have bats that will work in their home run park, but pitching is a question. I think they could make the playoffs, but without better pitching it'll be an early exit.
Most Underrated: Colorado Rockies - Other than five games against the Padres and Giants (both in the first week of the month), all of my Rockies' other opponents this month were .500 or better. With a stretch like that treading around .500 and staying in the playoff race are important. The additions of Elless and Aitkin, should mean more wins are to be expected in the upcoming sims.
Additional Notes: So far my overrated/underrated teams from the pre-season are panning out. As we've seen St. Louis does have a good pitching staff, but also has one of the worst run producing offenses in the NL. As for my other pick, Pittsburgh, they've played as expected. They have been helped by some re-tooling of the Cubs and subpar play by the Astros. However, they have five players on pace for 20+ home runs and the pitching staff looks fine.
