Nokes FCM to The Show

First off, I'm not trying to compete with DLee's efforts. I've finally got my spreadsheet prepared and ready for action. DLee's does a pretty good job, but mine will allow for more realistic Vision, Discipline, and Clutch ratings. First, here's how to use my guide.

1. You have two tabs, one for position players and one for pitchers (pitchers will also need to be sent through the position players tab to get their hitting and defensive vitals as well.

2. You will need to enter in some stats, but it's very minimal. You will need to decide whether the player fits best under the MLB calculation or MiLB calculation. Basically if a player has been up for a full 5 seasons (possibly even 4 seasons) you should be using the MLB calculation.

You only need to enter in stats in the highlighted boxes. Use career stats unless a player has seen a drastic change in role. Like I will only be using Ryan Christner's stats as a SP on COL since I would get much different results with him as a RP. Lastly you will need to decide what park effect is best for your player. It should mainly be based on your park, but if a player has bounced around it could change how you view him. Like with Edmund Poez I gave him a neutral park effect since he's roughly played just as long in COL (a hitter's park) as he did in MIL (a pitcher's park).

3. Once you have the final stat calculations you'll enter those in the corresponding boxes on the far right side. Then you'll enter in player vitals on the right side of the black divider (having the scouting tab open will make things much easier). For pitcher's MPH make sure you use the middle number of their velocity.

Also be sure to note the tips in italics.

How do I find pitcher specific arm, range, and fielding vitals?

Go to your roster page (Control+R) and click "Column Headings". Then find the defensive vitals and highlight them. After "OKing" your changes you'll be able to see the pitcher's defensive vitals.

4. After this is all said and done the left side of the black divider is what you'll be entering in The Show '12.

Since I'm sure I'll get some questions...

Why does Vision and Discipline matter?

Vision is basically the ability to avoid strikeouts. It's not just for simming purposes. Vision helps fight off tough pitches and helps make contact on pitches when you're early or late. Also (combined with contact) it effects how big your hitting circle is.

Discipline is basically the ability to draw walks. It's being able to hold up on that slider diving down and away. I've actually noticed players with high Discipline ratings not swinging at a bad pitch even though I actually tried swinging at it. This rating really helps on check swings.

Good ways to see how these ratings work would be to try some BP with Dustin Pedroia (BOS) and Carlos Gomez (MIL) against a somewhat wild pitcher who has a good K/9. You should notice it being easier to lay of bad pitches with Perdoia while being able to spoil good pitches. With Gomez you should notice it being tougher to check swing and make contact on good pitches.

How are the clutch ratings figured?

I decided to use OPS for position players and ERA for pitchers. Nothing helps OPS more or is anything more of a clutch hit than a HR, so I figured the higher the OPS the higher the player's clutch should be.

For a pitcher, ultimately keeping runners from scoring is the name of the game and usually the better clutch pitchers have the lower ERA.

I've updated some things and (hopefully) made it more user friendly. I've provided some examples with my Colorado Rockies. Have a look and let me know what you think.
