Plain and simple, you shouldn't be able to back out of bids. You make the offer, you should honor it.

this shouldn't be a discussion. Your allowed to concede the player (I.E. proclaim your not bidding on him) but in no way should that mean that every bid is null and void.

I think it shoudl go down to lowest bid before that GM bid though so for example:
u bid 2 dollars
I bid 4 dollars
u bid 6 dollars
I bid 8 dollars
u bid 10 dollars.
I then backout (which I dont really aprove of)
then the bid shoudl go back down to 2 dollars.
Also I think it should be case by case. If your looking for a 3B and you bid on FA for one but then make a trade with someone for a 3B you should beable to back out. Personally I wouldn't but I could see that situation happening.

I have seen people back out of bids because of brain cramps and changes in the league structure (a few seasons ago when we introduced the luxury tax). I personally don't have a problem with it if the other team does not have an issue with it. I think it should go back to the previous bid.

The only time it won't be okay is when both GMs are somehow involved in the means that's creating the need to back out. For example trading a player that would eliminate the need for a FA and requesting to rescind a bid to get a lower price (no matter how unintentional) is clearly manipulating the system. But like Sean noted in the past 10 years every other situation that a player backed out of a bid it wasn't manipulating the market.

There were clear outside circumstances then that justify it. In this instance, there were no such circumstances. To me, the 24 hour rule should always be in effect simply because it's only fair. With every bid there is the assumption of 24 hours. Someone who reads the thread when a bid is posted, assumes they have another 24 hours to make a decision. When we allow a bid to be rescinded and the 24 hour rule pushed back to the previous bid it completely undermines that assumption.
In my opinion, GMs can pull back a big if the circumstances are understandable, but waiving the 24 hour rule never makes any sense.

Agree with Andy here on the lats bit about the 24 hour rule. We need to make that offical.
