Im trying to get an understanding as to why John's extension was not valid... the one I posted in this thread earlier. The explanation in that post thread was that he didnt have 5 years service time yet. But the file says he is in his 6th season and he did have over 200 Plate Appearances in his very first season (first of five). So, how does he not have 5 years service time??

Not trying to cause trouble, just trying to get an understanding here.

Thanks for your time.

You're confusing Experience with Service Time. Arbitration and Re-Signing eligibility is based off of the player's Service Time, listed in the Vitals tab. Once a player goes past the rookie threshold (130 AB, 50 IP, or 45 days of Service Time) he'll rack up a season of Experience for every year he records a stat regardless of the Service Time. On the other hand Service Time is ONLY recorded for when the player is on the MLB roster. It takes 172 days on the MLB roster to equal 1 full year of Service Time.

Judging by the looks of things, John was probably up for about 60 days in '17 and a little over 100 days in '18. Since he surpassed the rookie threshold in '17 it started his Experience counting. However over the course his first two seasons his Service Time was only just around 1 full year.
