So this trade is now up to Hokey.

DJ, I agree that Nichols is a bench player but Turner has good vitals and is performing well .320 average 12HR and .395 OBA. I think he is a decent player that is signed at a cheap price. I think Li is going to be an outstanding player and I think he makes the offer fair.

In regards to Minnesota, I would take a look at their financials. He is 2.5M in the hole. After the trade of Mauer, he lost minimal salary because he picked up 13M from Webb and 5.65 from Montero (both expire in 2015). He is sitting with a payroll of almost 137M with a budget of 124.4. He needs to get something of value back because he will not be able to arb or resign these players come the offseason. Yes he is losing some salary at the end of the season but he still has Span, Hicks, Ramos, Navarro, Gutierrez that all are up as well that he may want to consider keeping that will all get pay raises as well.

Bottom line is Minnesota is a mess right now with their financial situation.

Turner has one good vital and his salary undermines any financial benefit for 2014 and with some of the contracts he has coming off the books and with a playoff run imminent he has maybe 5M-7M in payroll salary to cut. This deal doesn't even accomplish that. The only way this deal works for me is if he's getting true financial relief by losing Chou, Perkins, Drew, Hudson etc.

What if I send him some cash to get him out of red? I have 20M in my bank. I could send him 5-7M to help him out.

That would also be an option. No matter what we do though it's not going to stop GMs from taking the first offer they get for their star players. LAD did it not even 12 hours later with Kershaw.

Ok, I will split the difference of the 5-7M and give him 6M on the trade.

As you stated, it is being done on other trades, so I don't think it is fair to isolate one trade that it was done with the first set of negotations and not inject the same value on trades of a similar nature. There have been plenty of times I have done my due diligence and shopped players around and other times I have pulled the trigger because I saw something I liked.

Neither Minnesota deal should go through until some kind of plan is reiterated by Minnesota. These deals combined offer minimal salary relief, don't build for the future, and make him a worse team now.

I need to hear direction before I put a stamp on a trade by a new GM that looks off.

I know I'm not a trade mod, but I don't see what the guy's looks have to do with anything

Still waiting to hear if adding the 6M changes DJ's stance of approval.

Also waiting to hear from Hokey because this is standing at 2-2 and it appears he is the tiebreaker.

Irish, can you ask Minnesota to explain himself a bit?
