no minor league deals during 1st round of free agency
#1
Shouldn't minor league deals be reserved for players that are left after all major league options are exhausted for the player.

During 1st round of free agency, things are crazy. Players slip through and into minor leagues that if showed up in an updated file would possible be major league players. Reserve minor league contracts for after 1st update.

Just a suggestion.

I'm not opposed to this, but to play devil's advocate that's why you should throughly check all of the pages (and the search tool makes this very easy).

Honestly, it's a smart idea. Players, in real life, wouldn't accept those deals at that point. I'm all for this personally.

You can argue all day and night what a player would and wouldn't accept when it comes to money. I think if you might like somebody then check the threads and see if he has a bid, its takes all of 5 seconds.

The issue is this also eliminates the "I'm going to post 25 minor league deals at FA outset" - it's not realistic.

Thats true, but our whole FA system is unrealistic. Not saying its bad because I do like it since its simple. If anything I'd say after the first 24 hours then you can start with the minor league bids.

Might as well just make it the first round of bidding then. To me, anything less than 500k shouldn't be valid until after the first update.

So then don't make it valid until after?
What does it matter if he gets signed day 1 or day 4? If no one was going to pick him up day 1, whats the point of waiting 3 more days to sign him?
Not to be a jerk but it just seems like someone missing out on his #1 free agent, and going to look at his backup, realizing he signed for 450K and not the 1M you might have posted.

what difference does it make then, if it then makes the min bid 500k during that period you can bid that now and outbid a minor league deal.

I also feel the same argument can be made until we start getting to significant amounts of amount. A big argument is that players slip through the cracks at minor league deals well they will still slip through the cracks at 500k and so on until we hit a point where the cash in the deal is excessive.
