Offseason DP trading
#1
now that comp has changed to the sandwich round format, there is now no need to lock DP trading once the offseason starts.

My suggestion is that picks rounds 4-6 stay locked because they could/will have some movement due to compensation. I suggest that rounds 1-3 become tradeable after the resigning file is released because of the fact there is no reason not to open the trading of them. It will encourage more trading and open up trading possibilities for teams (both selling and going for a championship) trading of 4-6 picks would open at the normal time, once the regular season begins.

The new comp format opens up this idea so I would hope that this could happen next offseason (or hell even this offseason)

I would say at the very least it's time to stop limiting the pick trading until after Sim 2. If we're going to allow DP trading, lets open it up at ST at worst.

Personally I'd rather see 1-6 open at the end of the season with anyone trading 4-6 disqualified from comp players. But if we can't make that change or Peter's, I think we should at least open it up after the sim to ST is done.

I'm sticking with my original assessment that we've made an adjustment in the favor of allowing more movement, any more would completely undermine the point of limiting it to begin with: preventing trading DPs who's value isn't even ballparked with a draft class yet and, even more importantly, providing some prevention against crappy GMs from themselves.

At the end of the day the only benefit is increasing player movement and based on 12+ trades before the first FA file I don't think it's even needed.

I like the idea of being able to move pick 1-3. however, its not like picks 4-6 were allowed to be traded before in our old comp system.

I would be fine with opening the draft pick trading after spring training.

I get your argument DJ...but what about what Sean and I seem to be on the same page about? Peter also said he'd like this if his suggestion wasn't taken.

I guess I see no reason to wait until sim 3 - once the draft class is announced, why hold it back?

I would support opening rounds 1-3 in the off-season and then once Spring Training has been simmed opening up the remaining available 4-6 round picks. I think with this would definitely put any talks of opening up compensation round picks to rest.

I really don't see the point in not making these tradable until after sim 2. This opens up more trade possibilities and that is always a plus in a sim league. Even before the draft is shown, teams have a relative idea of what they should be able to get with their picks. I wouldn't be surprised if any of our past draft pick trades were agreed upon before sim 2 was released as a "wait and post" type of deal. In the least all available picks should be open once Spring Training is simmed.

Opening up rounds 1-3 would also be good because usually a team knows what their plan is for the season. A rebuilding team could go after picks earlier, while a team tyring ot make a go of it could add more peices without having to wait until a months worth of games have been simmed.
