Trio of Suggestions
#1
Release Waivers

Any team can put a claim on someone's releases. They will work just like the waiver process. I pitched this years ago and I never got why it was shot down so quickly. It can save on the hassle of releasing a player, only to have them bid on the next sim for a draft day deal, and having to edit their contract.

1. Any team can place a claim on releases.
2. The lowest win % to claim within 24 hours gets the player. First come, first serve after 24 hours.

Arbitration

Something that Mogul doesn't do properly is arbitration years for a player signed through free agency. If you sign a guy with 3.102 service time to a $1M/2 contract in FA, he should still have one more year of arbitration after the contract is up.

1. If you have a former free agent signing that will end the year with less than 6.000 service time, post in your in-season re-signings to have his contract changed to "arbitration".
2. The change needs to be posted before the final regular season sim. Failure to offer the player arbitration in the off-season will result in a $10M fine.

8-10 Year Offers

I don't think we've ever said "Yes" or "No" to offers beyond 7 years. 7 years is the norm for Mogul, but realistically they do happen from time to time.

8 Years Min Salary: $17.5M
9 Years: $20.0M
10 Years: $22.5M

1. Yes on Release Waivers although I would like to know why exactly it was shot down quickly when brought up in the past. Perhaps there was something in those objections that bear consideration.

2. A few questions on arbitration changes: IRL, does a player have a certain number of arby years, and do they resume arby after they sign their first FA contract? A more general question is what problem or shortcoming does this league face that this proposed rules change address? What would the $10M fine be assessed for, honest mistake in failing to offer a arbitration-eliigible player arby, or something more specific?

3. Yes on three, although some markets would have be very, very careful with this.

1 would be having two systems. We'd still have players go unclaimed and signed. So now I'm doing the same thing in two different places.

I still have to edit contracts, release players, etc.

Not big on the first one. If you want a player that's going to get released then go pay for him. The only amendment I'd like to see is if multiple people want to offer a minor league or min deal that the team with the lowest record is the tie breaker.

For arby I think it's just another thing to keep an eye on for very little gain. Who cares if that backup barley bench worthy player that you signed is now going to sign a regular deal instead of an arby one.

The longer contract offers I'm all for although I believe the 10 year deal should be upped to at least 20mil.

1) The thought is that it'll save some time editing contracts. Sure, some will get released and be signed in FA. It's more instead of releasing the player, they're traded to the winning claim.

2) In MLB, players can get arbitration until they've amassed 6 years of service time. Take Melky Cabrera for example. He was non-tendered and released by the Braves. Then signed with the Royals on a one year deal. Since he didn't have enough service time after the contract ended, he went back to an arbitration style contract. The fine would simply be for having the contract edited and then releasing the player anyway.

3) Self-explanatory with the minimums already laid out.

And Mike, we already do that style for draft day deals in FA.

How can we resign players to 10 year contracts? Or will we only be able to do that in free agency?

The first one, I don't care either way. If it happens, all I ask is if you post the player in releases early enough that the player gets released or sent to another team before the next sim happens. Especially after drafts. I don't like playing 2 position players at same position in same minors, so if I draft guys that i like more than the players I have, I may want to cut some of the crappy specs that I don't like. I wouldn't want to have the players I posted to release to still somehow be on my team once that sim happens, and potentially hurt the players' development that I just drafted, since it could be more than 1 position players in same minor league level. 1 sim def can be a big difference for a prospect.

The decade long deals are a little tricky. I'm not against it, but it would suck to have a new guy or semi new guy to come in and bid 10 years on a player then he bails. Offering 7 years and bailing would too be rough, but not at the same extent as a decade long deal. If the player isn't that amazing, then it could hurt finding a replacement. Maybe you offer the new GM a free release or something, or nothing and hope to find a new GM that is ok with the contract. I'm not against this, just concerned if people will do this and bail. If the league thinks it's ok, then it's good enough for me.

2. I dont think its fair to GM's to fine them purely because they get into arbitration and then dont like the players asking price.

3. Im just against this, length of contract is already one way FA contracts get stretched out and often its been players on the wrong side of 30. The only thing this will do is stretch out contracts even more and allow teams a greater chance the player retires on the back end of the deal so they wont have to pay them the full value. The way I see it (especially in volatile mogul world) is that 7 years is plenty.

(1) I think is a really clever idea. But doubt how many individuals will be trolling the release wire.

(2) Fine

(3) I'm not sure why we need this to be completely honest, but it is a good suggestion.

24 hours after release to claim. This means that you would need to check FCM every 24 hours so you don't miss something. I have other things in life that keeps me from checking on here every 24 hours. Big advantage for this rule goes to the guys that are on here constantly.
