Open DP Trading at Spring Training

What I don't want to get into is those kinds of arguments Nate. In real life teams don't get to deal draft picks and I never want rebuilding teams blindly dealing high value picks with no idea what the draft class looks like. So you'll have two days to finalize if you want to deal picks.

Peter, I think we'll have to switch to the posted plan above simply because taht WB, Rev. Sharing, updating the draft order sim on Wednesday is going to be a bitch. If you have an injury in ST, guess you have to deal with it the same real life teams do - on the fly.

What kind of arguments are you referring to? Again, in 5TM there isn't a problem with it, rebuilding teams generally aren't the ones dealing DPs anyway, it's usually contending teams trying to make a run or teams will trade up or down in the draft. Allowing it to be done earlier gives people more options, it's not like people have to deal them during Spring Training, if they want to wait they can.

We're not like any other league. The draft here is like nowhere else, the value of picks is like nowhere else. Arguments about "just let things happen as they will" or "let GMs do things as they want" are just tired. There is a reason for the rule and it is to prevent a dumb GM doing things that will hurt the league long-term. We're stable enough with GMs that I am not too worried, but I wouldn't rule out us pushing the deadline back in the future if things change. For now, this is safe and I know people will appreciate it.

As much as I'd be for opening up draft pick trading earlier, I don't like not simming through until March 1. Simming until Spring Training allows for the maximum number of players to age - primarily interested in prospects aging so that they don't falsely represent a higher value than they actually are. It also allows Mogul to do most of its talent distribution shuffling. I know personally nothing would be more frustrating than seeing your FA signing drop for no real reason.

Why not opening it up once the Spring Training file has been posted?

Because on March 1st the draft is visible to everyone so people can basically trade picks without posting it, knowing what the draft class looks like. Essentially, it would allow for draft pick trading in the offseason. Which I'm completely opposed to.

And that hasn't/doesn't happen already?

That's a valid point, but for years and years I've been trying to say that as a reason to open up draft pick trading earlier. Simming until Spring Training is a big deal for me. Simming to February 28 would accomplish the same thing and not allow the draft class to be known.

Then that's different than what you suggested. I'm ok with that as well. As long as it eliminates the ability to see the draft class prior to ST

If we are worried about FA drops then we should be simming to april 1st and then have FA start.

this...

Probably a bad example as I overvalued Clinkscales but if he was what I had expected him to be then it would have been silly to wait until Sim 2. We had the trade worked out in the offseason any way and lets say my team was contending... and I was out by 1 game at the end of the year... I would have been really annoyed if the only reason I didn't get in was because I couldn't trade for him earlier.

I think the February 28th idea is a good one. It's the best of both worlds.
