We signed Baez last offseason intending to keep him around while he still provided top-end speed, but with the Shuman deal we added a player we didn't expect and made him expendable. So not a planned sign and trade, just how the shuman deal worked out.

My impression was that we backed off that with the firing of piazza, I'll accept the league's decision either way. Just laid it all out there so there was no deception.
