And I agree with the earlier statement, I think by Andy, that if you add more teams to the playoffs it gives less importance to the regular season.
It's completely inaccurate to say all you need is to be just above .500 it make the playoffs. The 2 Wild Card spots will still be filled by teams who have high 80s or low 90s records. That's still a substantial amount of wins over losses. This won't take the importance of the regular season out because it's only 6 teams out of 14 or 16 making the playoffs. Only 12 out of 30. You still have to be one of the leagues top teams to make the playoffs. This system actually feels like it brings the best of the best in baseball into the post season. Ever other team after the last 2 WC spots have a record around 86 to 83 wins, which isn't enough, but almost a couple wins close to the playoffs. If they had won those couple of wins, the teams with the last 2 WC spots either have lower records, or they play tie breaker to figure out the playoff spots. That means good teams still miss out on the playoffs.
