It's my assumption that the MLB is the only professional sports where half it's league plays under a different set of rules. That in it's own is obviously unique. but as the majority of the PTI and ATH panelist said, it's an archaic rule.
As someone pointed out financially it makes sense b/c that's a 10th player that starts the game that would receive a raise. obviously 3-5M isn't huge when Arizona has 2.5billion, but it still stands that it makes a difference
