This is more of wanting a clarifcation than a suggestion but I'm posting it publicly since there has been a lot of confusion.

How exactly do they work? I know if you want to extend a player during the season that you have to beat his annual value, years and total value. It is my undersatnding though that if you wait until the end of the year phase that when you have someone to extend that is coming due then you don't have to follow that practice. That you instead do negotiations however you see fit?

It's meant to make GMs honor their contracts. You're free to extend them after they've completed their contract but not before, unless it's for more money/years/total value.
