Need the money to cover salary and I get to dump a couple small contracts. Even though they are fan favs they would never crack my 25 man roster now anyway. Plus I get Cortes who will be a nice fill in for the inevitable injuries that a team faces.

Yup, Cortes was a signed FA tis offseason, but I brought him on for pitching depth that I overestimated. So not trying to skirt the system or anything.
