3 New Rules - dejota - 03-07-2011

Rule 1: Buyouts

Buyouts are now 100% of the remaining contract with two exceptions:

1) You must meet all four conditions to receive an exception:

-The contract has 2 or fewer years left in the contract.
-The injury was 50 or more days.
-The drop for overall takes the player below 80 overall.
-The drop occurs before he returns from the DL.

If all four requirements are met you will be allowed to buy out at 50%. Please contact an administrator if you wish to request an exception.

2) Contracts GMs inherited are also eligible for the 50% exception.

Rule 2: Minim Bids Per Years

1yrs - No Min.
2yrs - 1M
3yrs - 2M
4yrs - 3M
5yrs - 5M
6yrs - 7M
7yrs - 10M

Rule 3: Bidding on Players over Age 30

If you wish to bid on a player over age 30 you're limited to 7 year deals and contracts that run through age 38. If the player is 37 or older, he will only sign a max of 2 years.

RULE 1 IS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY UNLESS RELEASE WAS POSTED BEFORE THIS POST. RULE 2 and 3 WILL GO INTO EFFECT APRIL 1ST, 2018.

Please contact myself or any admin for more information or clarification about these new rules.

Next thing you know this league will be adding an extra 5 million to every playey's salary using the argument of realism.

Fact.

In regards to rule number 2, I think it is highly annoying to have a 3 year @ 2M bid or 2 year @ 3M bid in on a player in his early 30's and someone comes in with a 7 year @ 1M bid. In all honesty, that is a manipulation of longevity of a contract.

I think rule number 3 is a great protection in the interest of the league. Lets say a 30 year old player is one of the top players at his position, he gets a hand ful of 7 year offers. Another owner can manipulate longevity of contract here by offering a 10 year bid, What happens to that contract in 4-5 seasons when that player declines and that owner that signed that contract leaves the league? That owner has the benefit of a great contract for 3-5 seasons and when it gets bad, it is pushed off on the new owner. We need this rule to protect ourselves from fiscally irresponsible bids.

In regards to rule 1, that is how it is done in MLB, too many bad contracts are being signed on a yearly basis. Owners should have to own up to the contracts that they signed.

These are long-overdue. Not so sure I'm in love with Rule 2, but it makes sense.

As far as I'm concerned, we should stop letting teams buy their way out of NTC. I imagine that's the next move.

RE: 3 New Rules - mattynokes - 03-08-2011

I like them. The only thing I don't like is the exceptions for the 100% buyout. I already discussed it with DJ and he said it would be mutually beneficially if the player craps the bed and has a big contract. But I'm sure Mike Hampton enjoyed making around $15M, sitting on the bench, spitting sunflower seeds. I just think teams should be held accountable for any offer the sign. Injuries happen out of the blue and it's a part of the game.

As for NTCs, Mogul doesn't handle them properly. While I don't particular think it's right to be able to buy one out, the player's accepting teams are often random and don't make sense. I'd rather see the corresponding agent have to approve of the trade. To Mogul a player accepting with a NTC is based on "friends" and team match, but it doesn't make sense for a player stuck on a bottom feeder, who's never been to the post-season to not accept a deal to a team in which he'd have a good shot at getting to the playoffs.

Agents are allowed to negotiate NTC situations, they're allowed to do anything GMs never ask and just assume.

Small update for contracts inherited by GMs. Will update to massive rule posts and individual forums once the 2018 season begins.
