Extensions Rule - JMaineD - 09-13-2018 There were recent talks of tightening finances, this could help. How about we use the rules for Free Agent contracts and apply them for all extensions. Specifically, this would impact the movement of relievers. 1yrs - No Minimum 2yrs - 1.0M 3yrs - 5.0M 4yrs - 7.5M 5yrs - 10.0M 6yrs - 12.5M 7yrs - 15.0M Lately, I've been seeing relievers being locked up at prime bargain rates:
The drawback to something like this would be a ton of 1 year extensions in the offseason, but this should shake things up properly to open up the reliever market. RE: Extensions Rule - mzylinski - 09-13-2018 The whole point of signing an extension is to get a good deal or a “Hometown” discount. I don’t thinking making it cost more to resign players makes sense. FA has been strong enough without unnecessary tweaks. Let's compare a recent big FA signee, RP Brad Smith, with a 4 year extension player, RP Mitchell Meinhart Brad Smith 4 years 22.5m Mitchell Meinhart 4y 5.6m I would think that if Meinhart signed a 4 year 7.5m extension, that is still a big "hometown" discount. Plus this file just doesn't generate that many quality RP. Since most SP and position players clear minimum rates, as you said, this would simply end up penalizing the teams who actually do manage to draft or otherwise obtain good RP. |
