Compensation pick trading - rockybull - 04-02-2014

I guess I just kind of find it weird that a team that was the worst team the past season can pick number 1 overall and then able to trade that 1st overall pick if it wants, but yet you can't deal compensation picks. 1st overall pick is way more valuable than a compensation pick.

I realize you couldn't allow trading right away, but once it gets inputted in the file (around ST sim or Sim 1, I guess that's when it usually gets inputted) then at that time you should be able to trade those picks. I guess I just don't understand why you can't deal those picks. It's not a huge deal, just kind of odd to me. Maybe it's a good reason why the league doesn't allow it, and if so, that's fine with me. But, I think once they get inputted in the file, they should then be allowed to be traded right at that moment. Just my opinion though.

i think the original reason was because we used to do the comp rounds pen and paper style without entering it into the file.

personally since we now completely re-edit the order i have no problem with the notion of the picks being tradeable at that point

I had brought this up seasons ago as I didn't think it made sense then either even with pen and paper style. I'm all for it. It's your asset so you should be able to move it if you think it will further improve your team. Also you could just draft a guy then immediately deal him to the team you were talking to to pick up more picks. So if you can do that then we might as well just let you trade the pick.

I agree, these picks should be tradable.

They are to make up for a lost player. They should not be tradeable. You have 6 other picks to trade away. Just be happy you have those to trade.

It allows the system to be manipulated. It'd be like being able to redeem coupons or gift cards for cash. These are extra things given to you as a thank you, not in the form of a get rich quick tactic.

I don't see the big issue really, you can always trade the player you drafted right after the draft anyways.

The draft pick is worth more, almost always, then the actual player.

So then you make a deal with a team, draft the player, then trade that player right away for further picks or what have you. It's the same thing so might as well eliminate the middle process.

If you want to do it that way, that's fine. But potentially combining the comp pick with other assets is where taking advantage of the system comes into play.
