Draft Day (.538 W%)

RE: LF Alec Searle - 'PR' - 08-25-2012

Draft Day (I had the worst record behind only Tampa) Idk if I can sign him to a draft day contract with how realistic the rules are but here it goes.

Generally, if you released a player you cannot sign him back for the remainder of the season. Furthermore, I would question why you released him if you want him back. You'd only be paying him more money with signing him in FA.

Well it's simple. I paid to release him for payroll space. I liked Searle but he was pretty costly, and signing him back would give me more depth. Another note, I would like to know where in the rules it says this is an illegal move. I've seen many people over the course of this league release and then attempt to and successfully re-sign players. It has never had a penalty. His release was financial, and if there is no rule against re-signing him then I wish to do so. There should never be a "general" situation, it's either a yes or no.

Paying a player by releasing him or keeping him on the roster is the same thing. The difference is how it appears in the game. All it does is appear that you're cutting payroll when you're actually still paying the salary, but it's out of cash as a buyout rather than being paid over the course of the season. If all things remain equal your season ending cash will still be the same.

Me either. I was just trying to provide you with some reasoning as to why you may not be able to sign him. It's one of the things that doesn't come up too often, so we don't need a rule for every little thing. It's a grey area and I know in the past we've ruled against it. It'll just be up to Andy/Sean with how they interpret the situation.
