RE: Long Term Draft - Corey - 10-27-2016

Any option but Sundays at 11 ET, that would be way too late to start for me as I work most Mondays (and I'm sure there are others on the east coast that agree).

Split night works fine for me. Sometimes I can't make Sundays so it would be nice to have that option actually.

This may help a ton. People could draft on the go or possibly load up a pick list to that of they can't in any way draft.

Right, most of us work Monday mornings, but starting at 11 PM ET if we're splitting it, isn't so bad. Our rounds take about 30 minutes apiece and it could potentially be Rounds 1 and 2 Sunday (11-12) and Rounds 3-6 Monday (9-11).

I don't see a point in waiting up until 11PM for two rounds. I mean I've got the time but that just seems like a waste of a valuable Sunday. Plus if we split it and started at 7 we could end around 5:30 to 6 PCT.

RE: Long Term Draft - mattynokes - 10-27-2016

Also, this is something I came up with on GBA. Let's face it. As nice as we want to be about saying "you have the right to wait to pick until Sunday night", that's not truly how we all feel. We want to see the draft get some picks in before the live portion. It's tough to come up with a viable time clock, but asking people to check back in every 24 hours is not much to ask. While it wouldn't guarantee many picks, it would guarantee some and it would allow for things to move along when we do get a run on picks and then are stuck with no course of action.

DRAFT RULES
1. The Draft Clock starts at 10 PM ET the day Sim #4 is posted. GMs will have 24 hours to make their selection.

2. When a GM makes their selection, they need to PM the next GM that is on the clock.

It is highly advised to have your email notifications turned ON.

3. As soon as a GM makes their selection, the next 24 hour clock starts.

4. If a GM fails to make their pick before their 24 clock expires, the next team(s) in line can start making their picks.

This is like the NFL Draft rules. Think back to 2003 when Minnesota (#7 pick) failed to pick their pick/trade before the time clock ran out. Jacksonville (#8) rushed in and selected Byron Leftwich, Carolina (#9) got their pick in of Jordan Gross, and then Minnesota finally got theirs in with Kevin Williams before any other teams selected.

5. If a GM fails to make their pick within 48 hours, they will be auto-picked by AndyP.

At any point a GM fails to pick within their 24 hour clock, they can jump back in line and make their pick right away. If a GM fails to make their 48 hour clock, they can still select a player as long as s6x or mattynokes have not made the auto-selection yet.

RE: Long Term Draft - Chuck - 10-28-2016

Matty - I don't like this because some of us have jobs and lives and occasionally we're too tired or beat up at the end of the day to come home and analyze the draft. Selfishly, the nature of my job at the ballpark often leads to 12-14 hour days and sifting through a bunch of previous draft choices after that, just so I don't lose my spot in line before the actual draft, isn't all that appealing after a long day.

The NFL comparison isn't valid because the NFL doesn't do advance picking. They do pass on teams the night of the draft if they don't get their picks in but they don't start picking as soon as the previous season ends. Yes, I can get an e-mail notification but if I'm at work that does me no good as I don't carry Mogul around with me. The early draft thread is a good idea but to force people into that or they don't get to pick on their own - not fair in my opinion.

RE: Long Term Draft - AndyP - 10-28-2016

Yeah, a rule structure for the predraft isn't something I support.

Right now it's a tight vote with splitting being the favorite. We may try that, my personal preference is to keep Sundays but bump an hour early.

That's the problem. As I told Andy, we keep telling people, "It's ok to wait", but in reality we expect people to make their picks ASAP. This is like with tanking and how the vast majority hated it, yet without a rule, nothing was looming over people to not tank. Now with a rule, we've seen the culture change on tanking and it can regarding the draft as well.

Spare me about the job and life things. We've all got that. Personally, I'm up at 4 AM twice a week for work and on those nights, I have nothing left. I've been very open about not scouting until Sim #4. However, that's because I usually have picks in the 20's. When I have picked in the top 10, I know enough of who I'm targeting before Sim #4. Something doesn't add up when someone is too busy to make their pick Thursday night to Sunday evening and then magically when the draft is live, they're ready to roll.

There's no faulting someone for being busy, it's not taking any course of action to get your pick in and allow things to keep moving along when you DO know who you're taking that's the issue. Take Hokey at #1 for example. If the rumors are true and he indeed did have someone in mind for the #1 pick even before Sim #4, then I think he should've PMed Andy instructions with him not being here so far this weekend.

"If 1B Hurley jumps or stays the same, I'll take him. If Hurley drops, then I'll take SP Salas as long as he jumps or stays the same. If both players have dropped, then I'll need more time to look things over."

Something of that nature is not asking too much.

RE: Long Term Draft - 'PR' - 10-29-2016

I don't have a problem if someone hasn't been able to get online due to life, but if your ass can be online with the game in front of your eyes, I think you should be courteous to both your fellow GMs and the only guy who everyone trusts to conduct the draft and make Sunday as smooth and quick as possible.

RE: Long Term Draft - AndyP - 10-30-2016

As I've said, I am ok with people waiting. There is frustration that people want it to keep moving, but I really don't care. The pre-draft is bonus.

I'll never impose forced picks during the pre-draft.
